LTF | THE COST
What does it truly take to become free?
In this episode, Melissa explores the often-overlooked reality of personal liberation: it comes with a cost. Through raw storytelling and pointed reflection, she unpacks the emotional and practical sacrifices required to step out of silence, safety, and self-erasure—and into sovereignty.
This is not a motivational narrative wrapped in easy answers. It’s a direct look at the discomfort, isolation, and transformation that accompany the decision to live fully and unapologetically.
Liberation, as Melissa makes clear, is not handed to us. It’s chosen—sometimes painfully, often alone—and always at a price. But the cost of staying small? Of remaining quiet in a world that asks us to disappear? That cost is far greater.
Listeners are invited to examine their own edges, their own longing for more, and to ask themselves the same question this episode leaves hanging in the air:
What will you choose?
Takeaways:

What if the thing you've been hiding is actually the most true, most powerful part of you?
Speaker A:This is loving the F.
Speaker A:Where we don't apologize for taking up space.
Speaker A:We own who we are.
Speaker A:And we don't look back.
Speaker A:I'm your host, Melissa Allison.
Speaker A:And here, we don't just talk about the forbidden.
Speaker A:We embrace it.
Speaker A:Your soul.
Speaker A:That's what it costs to stay comfortable in what you'll eventually realize are the chains of your own making.
Speaker A:But sovereignty.
Speaker A:That price.
Speaker A:Feels just as high.
Speaker A:At times, I had to ask myself, could I stomach the slow, painful rotting of everything I was?
Speaker A:And the answer was no.
Speaker A:I couldn't.
Speaker A:And in that moment, I realized I was at war with myself.
Speaker A:I've never been in an actual war, but my father was in, too.
Speaker A:I asked him once why countries go to war, knowing what it does to the soldiers who fight.
Speaker A:I brought up the stories of soldiers taking trophies, fingers, teeth.
Speaker A:As an argument to prove war did in fact do this to soldiers.
Speaker A:But he told me something I'll never forget.
Speaker A:War doesn't create that in soldiers, he said.
Speaker A:Rather, it reveals the darkness that already resides within, waiting.
Speaker A:And I.
Speaker A:I think that is true for the battle of self sovereignty as well.
Speaker A:But like untested soldiers entering their first battle, we don't realize how brutal it can get.
Speaker A:The price can feel too high at times, but that's the illusion.
Speaker A:What isn't is the fact that no one is coming to save you.
Speaker A:No one.
Speaker A:Because only you can save yourself.
Speaker A:I.
Speaker A:I was stripped of community security, of everything except the one thing they couldn't take.
Speaker A:Myself.
Speaker A:And it didn't matter what stage of life I was in.
Speaker A:There were those who seemed to have all the best toys and opportunities in the world, and they still needed me to disappear.
Speaker A:And it pissed them off that I wouldn't.
Speaker A:Rather I stood tall and I didn't back down.
Speaker A:And soon I became an expert at weathering the storms.
Speaker A:And if war reveals what's already inside, then what does our battle for self sovereignty reveal about us?
Speaker A:And if we're lucky, if we fight hard enough, what else might we uncover?
Speaker A:So, tell me, what will you choose?
Speaker A:Thanks for listening to this episode of Loving the F, where we look at the forbidden and say, hey, baby, if this stirred something in you, share it, rate it, send it to someone who's ready to hear it and come back for more.
Speaker A:We are just getting started.
